How much content should you include in your online course?

How much content should your online course have? How many modules and lessons are the "right" amount?⁣

There are so many pieces of advice out there and it can be so overwhelming. ⁣

Here's the thing... There's no right answer. ⁣

That might not be what you want to hear but stay with me on this. ⁣

𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. Nothing less. Nothing more.⁣

There's no goldilocks solution to this. I've work with clients to build 3 lesson mini courses and 6 month certification courses. And both of those were the exact right amount for the transformation that students wanted.⁣

So how do you figure out what the right amount of content is for you? It's a simple 3 step process 😎⁣

1. 𝗜𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗳𝘆 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀' 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀. Where do they want to be at the end of it? How do they want their lives to change for the better?⁣

2. 𝗕𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗱𝘂𝗺𝗽 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽𝘀 you think your students will need in order to achieve that. Break it down into main steps and then tactics, skills, and knowledge within each. ⁣

3. 𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗽𝗶𝗲𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁, 𝗮𝘀𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀: does my student need this information, skill, or tactic in order to achieve their transformation? If yes, it stays in the course. If no, it comes out or goes in as a bonus resource. ⁣

This last step is critical. This is where of my clients realize they're trying to add too much into their course and often split out "extra" content to serve their students through masterclasses, freebies, or even entirely separate courses. ⁣
